Peter Max and me
on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 1:10 amI write the daily news in my village in the form of a blog, it’s called the Coconut Grove Grapevine.
A few years ago, we had the great artist Peter Max coming to town to be guest of honor at a gallery opening that had his name on it. They sold Peter Max work and other things. I wrote about the event and the town came out.
I went to the event to cover it for the news and I saw Mr. Max so I approached him. I introduced my self as Tom Falco, editor and publisher of the Coconut Grove Grapevine and I shook his hand and asked him for a photo. He got very indignant and said, “No one takes my photo! I have my own photographer for that!”
He did have his own photographer that I guess got him in the right light at the right angles because truth be told, Peter Max is ancient.
Well, I was having none of that. I went out to get the story. I snapped back at Mr. Max, “Well, since I brought in most of this crowd tonight, I WILL be taking your picture. Now where to you want to stand?”
He got flustered and agreed and I guess he needed a friend or crutch so he called over Roy Black, the famous lawyer, he is now known as the husband of Lea Black, one of the Real Miami Housewives.
So Peter Max grabs Roy and says to me, “Oh, you wanna really meet someone famous, here’s Roy Black!” And I responded, “Oh hi Roy! I see Roy at the gym every day, I saw him there this morning. How are you doing?” To which Peter Max was beat and deflated and I got the photo and the story.
It can be seen here.
I gotta tell you about Mama Else some time, she lives down the block from me.

You got the snap and the snap back, too!
Way to go
