New format
on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 1:10 amI’ve decided to change the format of Tomversation. It will continue to be a panel a day but with regular characters. I want to keep the name Tomversation so I sort of worked it in by describing the panel as, “Tomversation is the conversation that all the animal residents have in the little, mystical village of Tom’s Cove.”
A panel a day featuring Oliver the rabbit was featured last week on Instagram (You can find me at “Tomversation” on Instagram, but the images can be seen online here.
People seem to like the simple drawings and format. I think people prefer the simple little animal figures rather than the more detailed, colorful gag-a-day panels I had been doing, at least that is what I see from the Instagram results. After so many years of doing what I did, I guess it was time to go where the audience is and do what the audience is asking for. I keep reminding myself that Peanuts and Charlie Brown were simple line drawings with a huge impact on society, besides my previous work was very similar to so many others out there. It seems that once Gary Larson opened the door for that style, so many ran through it with their similar work.
To be honest, when I would read the comics at GoComics.com, I would mix up so many of the single panel gags, as one looked just like the other. The new webcomics all over the internet on the other hand, are more creative and they stand out more. Except for anime, that all looks the same.
“Peanuts” was not the chosen name for the strip by Charles Schulz, he preferred, “Good Ol’ Charlie Brown,” but the syndicate won out. So maybe “Tomversation” will work for this new project I am publishing.
I hope you like it, starting Monday, I’ll start getting into the “real gags” and I’ll introduce more characters who live in the small village of Tom’s Cove. To that end, I have cleaned out the archives and we’ll start fresh.

Are there any rooms to rent at “Tom’s Cove”?
