I may spin these guys off into a new comic strip.

I am toying with the idea of doing a strip with regular characters rather than just random gag-a-day style panels. Not sure yet, but I am leaning that way. I have been playing with some animal characters as you can see here. The casting call is still out so these may not be the stars of the strip, just yet.

I may incorporate the comic strip in Tomversation and maybe once a week or so run the strip within a strip to see how it goes. Sort of like make it a spin off  if people like it. I may also go back to the square panel format rather than the long strip-like size that I’ve been using on and off. I think that the 5″ x 5″ square panel shows up better on smart phones and tablets, it’s easier to see and read than a long panel or strip. We’ll see.

I had read in a blog somewhere, I think it was at the Webcomic Alliance, that many cartoonists are reaching a plateau when it comes to readers. I had suggested that when there are regular characters and story lines, new readers get confused and they may not get it, whereas gag-a-day strips and panels are easily digested and the reader doesn’t need to know the whole history of the strip and characters.

But then again, that could be said of any tv show where it draws an audience over time, people just tend to catch up. I did that recently with Downton Abbey, I had not seen it until recently, but I quickly got up to speed.

Experimenting is the name of the game.
